Just got Clarke MacArthur from Buffalo for a 3rd and 4th round

I'm pretty sure they also moved Kovalchuk and Kari - maybe you missed that? ;-)

For the most part, this thing isn't broken. Assuming Kozy news doesn't come out, I'd be suprised if he's not put on the waiver wire.

This is a depth move at the right price. A little surprised Army was not moved with a pick for a better RFA aged player with more offensive upside or that Kozlov is still a Thrasher but the move itself is alright. The Rangers, Philly and Montreal made no big splashes either so it is not like they upgraded those rosters while we sat pat.

I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that so many teams are still in the playoff hunt that not many wanted to trade away talent signaling the end of their season.

Goals lost: Kovalchuk (33)

Artyukhin (4), MacArthur (13), Bergfors(16) and Oduya(2) = 35.

I don't think a regular season roster's going to allow us all the players we'll need to make up for the lost offense.

Plus, we've got 5 UFA's still un-signed and possibly gone (for nothing) come July 1st: Hedberg, Kubina, Max, Kozlov and Armstrong.

Your assumption is too one-sided. What have we picked up in defense and ability to be more than just a sniper? I really liked Kovy, but he was nowhere near the superstar or leader that the other elite players are. The team very seldom rallied around him.

He's gone now. We can either sit around and boohoo about it or move forward and watch the TEAM grow. Kovy did not want to be here, so fuck him. He can rot in that cesspool they call New Jersey. He's not exactly setting the world on fire up there, anyway.

One other factor lost in the Kovy trade is that now we will have cap space, lots of cap space. The players we got are either signed for a number of seasons or they are RFA. We now have some stability and young talent.

While I am surprised that we still have Kozlov and Army somehow I think Kozzy's NTC handcuffed DW and Army being a rental did not help.
