Atlanta's Nasty Nest

I can't remember for sure if we were talking about this before, but I thought I might bring it up since I've been thinking about it. What does everyone expect for this upcoming season? What are you going to consider a successful season? Personally I would see finishing btn 10th and 8th in the conference as being a successful season. I just wanted to see where everyone else's thoughts lay.

Really depends on who we draft and what free agent(s) we can sign - so, too early to tell in my opinion.

Think we will finish between 6th -10th depending on who DW can bring in. The draft is not going to bring us a player for next season unless we move up.

If we add a Komesarek (sp) and a Fillulpa we finish 6th.

If we add a Samuelsson and a Klee type we finish 10th.

The good news is we really only need two players and some health.

Playoffs. Anything else is a failure

With a few more pieces the team can make it to the playoffs. They showed that in the closing days of the season.

I understand this mentality. But suppose we finish just two points out like in '06. Remember how we felt then? Yeah, we were all disappointed about just missing the playoffs, but remember how optimistic we were? The team was bona fide playoff contender, players talked about wanting to come here (or stay here), and we KNEW we were going to make it in '07, and we did. Considering the last two seasons, a season like the '05-'06 would give us something to be excited about, which we haven't had in a long time. It's not the playoffs, I agree, but . . . still . . .

Oh and we also need to extend Illya's contract. If we dont, I doubt next season will be anything we can consider to be a successful season

i think the thrashers are going to have a very aggressive offseason. personally i think they will do everything they can to put a playoff caliber team on the ice to appease Ilya and lock his ass up long term.

I think you guys will trade for one of: scott gomez or patrick marleau, and i think you guys will go hard after komi and gaborik.

thats just me though.

I can see us adding 7.5 mil on two players but we are not going to add anyone player with that price tag.

More like a trade for Fillpula (3 mil) or Lupol (4.5) and sign Scudri for (2 mil).

I think that the season should at the very least show us what kind of players do we have in the youth movement. If guys can repeat the previous season and build on it then playoffs are definitely in order. If there is a huge turmoil with Kovy then the season will be a disaster. My expectations are to make the playoffs

I would settle for one playoff win and resigning Kovy.....

The talent gap between teams isn't as large as it looks to be some nights, and most of the time it only comes down to attitude. We should expect and play for the cup. Anything less is just showing up for a paycheck.

Now that some major moves and the draft has been completed.... I'm thinking we're absolutely in position to be a playoff team. I think Washington wins the SE, but I can see us getting in at the 7th or 8th seed.
