And that's a problem because???

The kid is playing junior and was not eligible to play professional anyway.

This says it all, doesn't it? What a royal screw-up..unless you're a Devils' fan..

from espn.com:
Oduya has two more years on his deal after this season at a $3.5 million salary-cap hit. Bergfors will be a restricted free agent July 1. Cormier was suspended for the rest of the season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for an elbowing incident but he's a highly regarded prospect.

LOL...yeah, y'all keep defending Waddell and trashing Kovy. He doesn't look so bad all of a sudden, does he??

Waddell was asking from the Rangers for Staal, Dubinsky, Grachev, and a first...but took a heaping load of garbage back instead from the Devils....wtf?

Asking stuff is easy... saying "No" is as easy for the Rangers.

I think Waddell got the most he could have at this specific time (before the Olympics). If he wanted more he should have dealt him before that.

9 D'men and 3 Goalies... Something tells me this got done before the deadline so we could move more people.

Oduya is decent. Stay at home shut down defenseman if I remember correctly with some pretty sweet +/- numbers. A swede too so he and Toby should play well together.

We weren't going to get market value because it's too late and it's DW. What we got was the ability to move on.

Salmela is gone as well in this deal so only 8 dmen. Bergfors is -7 on a Devils team???? And Oduya is +2

UNGOOD!

And so what did we end up getting for Havelid from last year's deal???

Maybe with these defensive pick-ups we're going to trade Anderson.

'Cause these guys aren't going to make up for the 50+ goals/year we just lost.

Miss Kovy yet?? You sure $9-10 million/yr for 10-12 years was too much? Will you be thinking that as we face the Caps tomorrow with Brian Little and Evander Kane for offense?

Salmela is going back to NJD and Cormier is a disgrace to hockey, that is all.

Lets slow down and think about this.

Salmela went with Kovy to NJ so we still have 8 defensmen

Kovy was not going to sign an extention, that was obvious. We all knew he was going to free agency on July 1st, the Devils do not sign players to anything close to max contracts so Kovy will be a UFA. OK, so far, the team had to move him.

Bergfors has talent, he is also a rookie in that he has played nowhere near 82 games. A smallish Swed who works hard and is very fast, we have a defenseman who fits those traits.

Odulya was a favorite of the boards before he re-upped with NJ the summer we got Hainsey. He can man the point on the PP but more importantly he makes for a log jam on defense. With Odulya we now have 5 top 4 defensmen. We have been bitching about shots against, here is a defender who has played in a system known to limit them. Wonder if DW talks to Kubina about waiving his no trade clause to move to a team that could use a top 4 defender like say Washington?

Cormier is a more serious version of Armstrong, more offensive upside with a lot of nasty. No he has never broken anyones neck but he is serving a suspension from the Q. Safe to assume he will get a long look in camp next season and makes Army attractive trade bait.

The first round pick is wat it is. It will fall between 20-28 and with Dudley making a pick we could get another Klingberg or Morin type prospect. That could be worse.

We by no means took Lou to the cleaners, no one does, but the return for a rental is not terrible.

Oh and has anyone thought about the cap space we will have next year? We just lost 2.4 mil and have three assets that are all either RFA or signed for three seasons. In fact once we lose Kozlov and Kari we have close to 10 mil to spend.....to get to the floor. Think about what high priced UFAs will be availble.....just saying.
