Sounds like Kovy and Kozzie don't like how Anderson tends to roll 4 lines when possible.

That's kinda what I got too. It's too bad that they can't understand what a complete team game is. Further evidence being Kovy's unwillingness to back to our zone.

Looks like Kozzy soured on us and that really sucks to be honest. I know you don't break up with someone unless they piss you off, but has anyone ever left Atlanta happy? Have we ever had a long term mutually beneficial relationship with a single player? After 10 years we've seen some serious hall of fame talent come through our doors, but do we even have a single player who's jersey we can retire with pride? And one who would show up for the ceremony?

Maybe there's a question.. Would you retire Kozzy's jersey? Kovy's? After all Kovy has accomplished and as he continues his hall of fame career... when he's done do we retire his jersey? Will people even remember which club he spent the first 7 years playing for? Or will that be a bad dream everyone conveniently forgets?

They didn't like Hartley, they didn't like Waddell, they didn't like Anderson. Sounds to me like Kovy and Kozzy might be divas. Honestly, Kozlov's downfall is his own inability to perform. He can blame it on whatever he wants, but make the most of your ice time and you won't ride the bench or sit in the press box.

If he goes to the KHL, he will get his wish. Plenty of compatriots there. If he is such a hot commodity, we would have moved him before the deadline. That interview probably did not help his prospects of being traded to a good team with good team mates. Now, he gets to sit on his ass and collect a paycheck until July 1.

Kozlov liked Hartley and said so often. Apparently, he respected his discipline.

I totally agree with Kozlov. No surprise there. And OBVIOUSLY, I am not the pro Kozlov is, but I have had Anderson pegged as a problem all season...even last season. And now a well-respected international hockey figure, as well as a 2-time Stanley Cup winner (no one knowledgeable in the sport can minimize or dismiss Kozlov's credentials in pro hockey) who knows more about how to win in this league than a career minor league coach, speaks out and criticizes Anderson. About time.

What works in the AHL does not translate the same in the NHL...players (Sterling, Krog, Crabb),...coaches and systems.

I give Slava real props for being honest, but not doing all the bashing you know he wants to do...that he deserves to do.

Anderson's had 2 seasons now to make some progress with this team...most of it with a top scorer in the league (yeah, that sucks, right??) It has not happened, people. Bitch about Kovy and Kozzie all you want, but Anderson's record speaks for itself...or not.

Since Feb 6th, this team beat Florida twice (not impressive...they've got fewer points than us) , won vs Minnesota and lost to Colorado and Chicago in OT (better than expected), but...big picture...we're still not in playoff position. Let's see how we fare vs the Rangers, Coyotes, Sabres, Flyers and Bruins.

And if we do make it (which we won't) than we'll be most likely wiped out in the first round again. This is NOT progress...or "building".

IMO, til Waddell and Anderson are gone and ownership makes a bold statement that they are truly committed to winning, this franchise is doomed to simmer in the bottom of the league, living for top draft picks, giving away lame "free coffee" and saying "next year" as a mantra to keep fans buying tickets.

Thrashers fans should demand more than just annually fighting for 11th and 12th spots in the East, and the loss of top draft picks, in year TEN.

So wait a minute, the season before JA took over we finished 3rd worst in the entire league and you're saying if we make the playoffs two seasons later that we're some how not any better? How does that work?

Kozzie's being a little baby. His ice time is taken away by someone who works harder than he does and puts effort on the ice, who just happens to be Todd White. Sure we're not all too fond of Whitey but the benching put his ass in gear. He's been good on the PK and chipped in a few points as well since returning from being benched.

As for Anderson, it's a team concept that wins games, he obviously didn't have two believers in Kozy/Kovy. When your superstar gets away with murder in the team aspect of a game, it NEGATIVELY effects the rest of the team, especially when that hotdog is Kovy. No reason to fire Anderson Sam. Anderson finally has his TEAM that he wants to go with. He's got rid of the two cancers on the ice and the team seems to play more 60min games, more inspired hockey in ANDERSON'S SYSTEM. with the two primadonnas not on the ice.

A CAPTAIN is one who shows up everynight, puts forth effort everynight on the offensive side/defensive side, whatever the coach wants him to be. Even if the team isn't going anywhere the CAPT will bust his ass for the TEAM. KOVY never did any of this. He broke his foot b/c he tried to get out of the way of blocking a shot.

You guys might hate Crosby because of his first couple of years in the league and his whining but he is one captain that would bust his ass game in game out, Richards of the Flyers does it, NASH of the CBJs does it, Iginla does it, Staal busts his ass on the Hurricanes knowing full well his team isn't going anywhere, but Kovy would never do it. he's selfish, he wants his money, fame, and cup without the hard work. As much as everyone hated Hossa, he did not really want to be in Atlanta in the first place got traded here, but he worked hard game in game out until the last month or so til he put himself on the trade block and didn't wnat to get injured to whatever team picked him up. Hossa is one of the best backchecking forwards in the league.

As for my rant, I'm going to go watch fight club.

Folks here may not like Schultz's "negativity", but its the content that's negative. He's just reporting it. Read if you like..or not. He references Kozlov's interview. I think he's just calling a spade a spade.

http://blogs.ajc.com/jeff-schultz-blog/2010/03/03/trade-deadline-pa...

"In hopes of sending a strong message to the hockey fans of Atlanta that the Thrashers have not given up on this season, here is what general manager Don Waddell did before Wednesday’s trade deadline:

♦ Acquired a fourth-line left winger named Clarke MacArthur from Buffalo. MacArthur was a team-worst minus-14 on the Sabres, who are one of the most responsible defensive teams in the league. He has scored 13 goals. Given he ranked 10th among Buffalo forwards in ice time, I’m guessing the Sabres weren’t overly concerned about losing him.

♦ Did not acquire any scoring help following the trading of Ilya Kovalchuk. Well, unless you count MacArthur’s 13 goals. Come to think of it, that actually places him sixth among the current Thrashers. For all we know, he’ll be the new triggerman on the power play.

♦ Held onto forward Slava Kozlov, despite the fact that the veteran has been a healthy scratch and requested a trade. This should be interesting. Kozlov was tight with Ilya Kovalchuk. He couldn’t have been happy with the way that whole situation unfolded. He is at the end of his contract. He wanted one more chance to play on a playoff team (and the fact he asked out must lead him to believe this isn’t one).

More on Kozlov. Here’s a link to an interview he did with the Sport Express Daily in Russia. (The translation is a little rough, but the context isn’t lost.) Excerpts:

“Nobody offend me, but the team slowly drives me out and in general I don’t put blame on someone.”

“I was negatively surprised when Atlanta managers said they hadn’t won any [playoffs] in eight years with [Kovalchuk]. Kovalchuk has done a lot for this team and I was hurt by these words. It means that it’s time for me to leave the club too.”

“They can be offended by Kovalchuk because he didn’t sign the contract, but it is his right to do it. It’s a big sum of money [but] I think that if Ilya made this decision, it is absolutely right.”

“[Anderson] likes playing four lines, while I think that it’s impossible to play the whole match this way as we simply lose the rhythm. Ilya and I tried to explain that it’s necessary to change picture of the game sometimes.”

It wasn’t all bad news Wednesday. After Tuesday’s news of 48-year-old defenseman Chris Chelios being upgraded from a minor-league deal to a two-way contract — opening the door to him possibly playing on this team — we can report that Waddell didn’t sign Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky, Phil Esposito, Bobby Orr, Gump Worsley or Les Binkley. So that’s a step forward. (Question: When Chelios goes into the Hall of Fame, is there a chance now he goes in as a Thrasher? And do the Thrashers take credit for developing him in the minors?)

The strange thing about all this is the math says the Thrashers are solidly in the playoff race. They’re one point out of the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. But you certainly don’t get a sense of momentum right now, and they’re generally off the radar in town.

The situation at forward is so up in the air that the team is keeping 15 forwards on the roster right now, meaning three will sit out every game.

“Competition is a good thing,” Waddell told our Chris Vivlamore.

Yes. We feel sorry for the teams that can actually identify their top forwards."

Shultz isnt just reporting it. He chooses what he writes and how he writes it to come across negatively. He is an ass

Let's start with his comments on Slava not being traded. If ANY team had wanted Slava yesterday they could have had him. He's still here. Guess what that means?

Slava was benched by Anderson who hoped that maybe Slava would work a little harder and produce on the ice. When he got back into a game he didnt do anything but sulk. He ended up back in the press box. If Slava wanted out, he should have given something to teams to look at and want. Other than shootouts he hasnt really done that.

I'm hesitant about MacArthur but Cunneyworth I think is a good judge of talent and wanted him so I'll reserve judgment on him. Who knows, MacArthur could be this year's Peverley.

Rolling 4 lines consistently and getting teamwork gets you victories. We have seen that since Kovy left here. Since the lockout Buffalo made it deep in the playoffs when they were rolling 4 lines. Players left for more $ and they couldnt roll 4 lines consistently and they havent been to the playoffs in 2 seasons. Miller definitely helps the Sabres but if you dont have guys scoring or playing D, you dont do well. Detroit and Pittsburgh are very good when they are rolling 4 lines consistently.

AHL coaches cant make it in the NHL. That's why the Capitols, oh wait. What about the Penguins? Oh wait their head coach started off last season in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and ended up hoisting the cup.

Here is the thing tha drives me nuts about this Schultz commentary. Did he go to Slava and ask if DW mentioned a team and Slava turned it down? Did Slava give DW a list of teams he would go to? Why is DW going to go out of his way to attempt to find a home for a player whose effort has been something less than exceptional this season ( I am a Kozlov fan ) and who has been a fixture in the press box the last three weeks? The return would not have been great and who knows if Slava would have waived the NTC. Slava has sounded like a child the last couple of days, did shultz think to ask if DW could have moved him to a decent team for a low pick and Slava felt insulted and involked his NTC?

Saying it did not get done is the easy obvious thing to write, asking the pointed questions of both the player and GM, doing the research, attempting to shed a little new light might be a better approach.

Wow Andy we do agree on something...maybe my ankle will heal faster than it should....

Most people will say that Detroit/Pittsburgh are fueled by their two superstars Zetterberg/Datsyuk Sid/Geno... Who on each team scored the most goals? I wasn't any of those four, it was the Max Talbots, Darren Helms, Jordan Staals, Justin Abdelkaders, Kris Letangs, The D Guy on Det Ericssons who stepped up when they needed to.

If it's true that Kovy had a problem with rolling four lines, then that was going to be the death of the team. Most teams will at least roll 3 lines consistently game in game out. What did Kovy want? Kovy line Slava line Kovy line Slava line Another line Kovy line Slava line??? That's not gonna work. It may work for a couple of games but not for a whole season. Plus Slava has done jack squat with his ice time, so as Kovy way would go we're rolling 5 forwards for most of the game, that's doomed to fail.

Caps coach Bruce Beadreau, Pens coach Dan Bylsma, and a few other AHL coaches have success in the NHL with their systems.
