Thrashers Recall Goalie Peter Mannino from Chicago

Ben said yesterday it was because practice started back and they needed 2 goalies at practice.
Now that Czech is out of the Olympics, Pavs may return sooner and may not need Mannino?

This seems like a strande move. Mannino has been very good with a white hot Chicago team, why take him out of thatgroup when we could have made a call to the Glads and used a backup goalie to hold practice. I was actually worried that Pavs got hurt in a Czech practice and Mannino was called up to get a feel for the system but there has been no word about Pavs.

Yeah, they don't need Mannino just to practice. Seems odd.

While I do think you're partially right, these guys are tuning up to start back next week and it's kind of hard to run drills at both ends with only one goalie. The Olympic players don't have to report back till Monday so it was probably just to make sure they had two here. Also Mannino got yanked from his last start so maybe it was just to let him clear his head and come back with a fresh start.

I know this probably doesn't have anything to do with it but Alex Auld just got waived by Dallas.

And he cleared. With Turco and Kari they have to NHL goalies but Marty is almost certainly gone, which would make Kari the #1 and Auld the backup. Auld is UFA as is Turco so the move to get Kari in part was so they would have an NHL level goalie in the system.

The question now is what is the over/under in games before Kari is injured? Is he past it this season having already missed 63 games?
