Yea, but they're still Toronto. J.S. hasn't been elite in a couple of seasons. They're going to regret getting rid of Toskala.

Calgary got HOSED, Anaheim got pretty good value all things considered, and Toronto just got a whole lot better.

Calgary didn't get hosed at all. They needed 2nd/3rd line scoring and got it with Stajan and Hagman. Phanuef is terrible in his own end, he's turning into XLB, just a big hitter and decent PKer.

Teams basically swapped locker room cancers. By attitude, unused salary, or comfort in losing. This trade will come down to who makes the most of their new starts.

Calgary got older though. They will have to produce something significant in the next year or 2 at the most for this to be considered a success.

It is a tone of money moving but the most important part for the Flames is when the deals they aquired end.

Phanuef need to get out of both Sutters dog houses.

No idea what the hell the ducks were thining taking on Blake, just does not make any sense.

The more you think about it the Toronto defense looks very solid on paper. Komiserik (sp), Schenn, Bauchemen (sp), Kabele and Phanuef looks very good on paper but thais just paper. Taking on White makes sense for Calgary since he has played better than Phanuef on a far less talented team.

In the end Burke almost has to make a move for a forward since he has Kessel as the only NHL level top six forward on that roster.

Yeah, but he doesn't have the money to do it does he? I think he he's right on the cap. But I'm too lazy to look it up. I'll just assume I'm right.

Agreed on that but Toronto does have the revenue and willingness to bury a problem in the minors which opens cap space. It will be interesting to see what other moves the Laffs make. I think moving Blake gives them a player in Giguere or Phanuef who can be more effective just in terms of money on ice.

JS is funny dude. He can't be counted on to build a franchise around. A season definitely... He's incredible when he's confident and on his game. He's back with Burke and his old goalie coach and a new situation - all which will help him tremendously. But the league restrictions on puffy pads was aimed straight at him and it took him from 2003 to 2007 (whenever) to get his game back. And then he wins the Cup only to completely forget how to play the game again. And I mean completely. He's almost like the Max Afinogenov of goalies. All this incredible crazy-mad potential that he can only string together once in awhile but when he does it lights the whole damn team up. I just can't put my money on a guy with confidence problems in Toronto either. The media will eat him up every time he makes one bad save.

One bad save is better than One No Save right? LOL.

I'm with you though, he's a headcase, saying he wanted to be the starter in Anaheim but couldn't beat out Hillier the last few seasons. I think a change of scenery is good for him.

• Dion Phaneuf takes Garnet Exelby's No. 3 for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Meanwhile at practice, fellow former Calgary Flames player Fredrik Sjostrom is skating with Rickard Wallin and Nikolai Kulemin, while a shortage of available bodies has forced defenseman Jeff Finger to skate with Lee Stempniak and John Mitchell; making Finger, for the moment, the most overpaid forward on the team.

youre taking 4 players from the worst team (or one of the worst depending on teh day) in the NHL and bringing them to your team...and you traded a defenseman who has averaged 16 goals/82 game season and 33 assists per 82 game season...

were basically talking about a 50 point defenseman being traded here, and hes only 24 years old. This is a colossal steal by the Maple Leafs.
