I think we will see something like your idea in the next CBA, limiting the years and probably the practice of front loading. Even GM Lou is rumored to have said he was sure the NHL would void the contract. What does that say?
Yea, I totally agree. Nobody actually thinks Kovy's going to be playing until he's 44. I think they should 40 as a good cut off point for long term deals, like you can't sign a contract of more than 10 years if it takes you past your 40th birthday.

I don't think that can be it only because if you go look at Pronger's salary, his goes from $4 million to $525,000 the next year.

Just saw that. My guess is that they don't like the last 7 years of the deal. Plus in the current CBA you can't make 1/2 your salary in a following year. 3.5m to 750k is in violation of the CBA.
