I think we will see something like your idea in the next CBA, limiting the years and probably the practice of front loading. Even GM Lou is rumored to have said he was sure the NHL would void the contract. What does that say?
Yea, I totally agree. Nobody actually thinks Kovy's going to be playing until he's 44. I think they should 40 as a good cut off point for long term deals, like you can't sign a contract of more than 10 years if it takes you past your 40th birthday.
Glad to see the league do this, even with an arbitrator should the NHLPA decide to challange the league it is a slam dunk for the NHL. Yes there have been other cases of add on years to lower the cap hit but never for this length, the DiPeitro contr…
According to sources - the fact is that Kovy will unlikely play that the last 5 years for the structured $550,000, thus they are trying to get around the salary cap. I do not think there are any rules against what is being done in this contract, so…
I was corrected on the MSH boards:
[quote]The rule says that no salary can drop year to year by more than 50% of the second year of the contract. So since Kovy's second year is 6mil, no one year drop in salary can exceed 3mil. Thats why you have th…
Just saw that. My guess is that they don't like the last 7 years of the deal. Plus in the current CBA you can't make 1/2 your salary in a following year. 3.5m to 750k is in violation of the CBA.
Good point it has a No Movement Clause until 2017 then it is a NTC.....really what is the point of that? Kovys game is speed what happens once that is gone?
Yep, the question is when will Kovy retire. The moment that contract goes south he is done.
Kovy would have been much better off in LA, the Kings will be contenders for a long time while the Devils are an old team with few good prospects in the sys…
